When searching for the best emergency kits there are several things to consider. You will want to make sure
that the emergency survival kits that you are purchasing meet your needs and your budget. The size of your
family is something you must consider. Make sure that your family emergency kits have enough emergency
survival supplies to support you for 3 days. Typical emergency kit sizes are 1 person 72 hour kits, 2 person
emergency kits, and 4 person emergency kits.
Make sure that your disaster kits are made following the guidelines set by government preparedness agencies
and non-profit organizations.
If you wish to create your own emergency kits then you will need to make sure that you choose quality
emergency supplies.
Emergency water: is on of the most important aspects of your emergency disaster kits. You will need at least
24 ounces of water per person. Your 3 day emergency kit water should have a shelf life of 5 years, so that it
won’t spoil.
Emergency food bars: usually they come in 2400 Calorie Bars and 3600 Calorie Bars. Each person should have
at least 800 calories a day. Make sure that you choose food that will last for at least five years.
Emergency Lighting: When emergencies or disasters happen you will also experience a power outage. If this
happens at night you will need a good source of light. Batteries loose their charge after awhile, so a solar
powered flashlight, a squeeze flashlight or a shaker flashlight is best. LED Flashlights use the least amount of
power.
Emergency hygiene kit: make sure that your earthquake disaster kits contain toothpaste, tissue paper, and all
other necessary toiletry items for each person.
First Aid Supply kits: You will need a good first aid kit with your emergency kits, so that you will be able to treat
any injuries after a disaster.
