Preparing for a Flood:
Buy or prepare an emergency flood kit or flooding emergency kit and have with it:

During a flood:
Prepare a Family Disaster Plan:
Buy or prepare an emergency flood kit or flooding emergency kit and have with it:
- A first aid kit
- All essential medications
- Special items for infants, elderly, or disabled family members.
- Have with a set of instructions for turning off your utilities in your Disaster Survival Kits.

Preparing for a Potential Flood:
- Turn off your utilities and disconnect all of your electronic electric appliances.
- Move your furniture and valuables to higher floors of your home.
- Fill your car's gas tank, in case an evacuation notice is issued.
During a flood:
- Do not try to drive over a flooded road. Your car could stall and attempting to move a stalled
vehicle in flood conditions can be fatal. If you get caught on a flooded road and water levels are
rising quickly, climb out of the car and get to higher ground.
Prepare a Family Disaster Plan:
- Check to see if your insurance covers flood damage. If it does not, ask your insurance how to
get flood insurance.
- Keep all of your insurance policies, documents, and other valuables in a safe deposit box.
